Real wedding: Ellen & Rob’s colourful Post Office Hotel nuptials!

Ellen and Rob got hitched at one of my fave locals, the Post Office Hotel in Coburg just up the road. I was the celebrant and MC for this fun and colourful wedding.

The couple’s original enquiry said: “PARTY PARTY PARTY!!! We want a laid back, all the thrills, fun party wedding!” Having read this, obviously I was a keen bean to be involved in their big day.

The venue and vendor line up

The Post Office Hotel’s Dining Hall in Coburg is seriously the perfect venue for relaxed, party-loving couples. You just can’t NOT have a good time there. It’s got great food, great drinks, lovely staff, plus an epic dance floor perfectly positioned next to the bar. And you get your own private beer garden.

Ellen and Rob opted for a fun, cocktail style wedding vibrantly styled with brightly coloured florals by Urban Antidote and streamer installations by one of my fave ever vendors, Bangin Hangins.

Other vendors included the lovely photographer/videographer Mardy from All My Wednesdays (with the equally lovely Jack Currie as second shooter) and live music by Lark Music. Magnet Me also roved around taking photos for keepsake magnets – such fun party favours.

 

The ceremony

Ellen and Rob’s ceremony was relaxed, personal and full of laughs as well as heartfelt moments. The couple exchanged sweet personal vows and danced back down the aisle.

I told their love story, which started on the dating app Bumble during COVID lock downs. Their first date was a coffee walk around a golf course – remember those times when coffee walks were the highlights of our days!

They had joked a few days earlier via text that if the conversation was fading after one lap of the golf course, they would head off back to their cars. Thankfully, this didn’t happen and both agreed on another lap. They just talked and walked. Nothing particularly exciting or grand. But as Ellen describes it, it was the perfect first date.

Both felt like there was something special between them. And there was!

Fast forward nearly three years and they were celebrating their marriage with all their favourite people and a little bun in the oven too (doesn’t Ellen look positively glowing?).

MC services

Being a cocktail wedding, formalities were brief but it was still my job as MC to keep the night running. I stepped in to help gather family members for photos during cocktail hour, remind guests to take a photo as a magnet keepsake and announce all speeches and key moments, such as the father/daughter and first dance.
