Real wedding: Celebrant, DJ & MC fun at Flowerdale Estate
Categories Real weddings.16 Mar, 2026
Daniel and Laurisa’s day at Flowerdale Estate was never going to be a stuffy, by-the-book affair. With a guest list of 92 very fun friends and family I knew wouldn’t need any warm-up time, the energy was high from the very start.
I had the absolute pleasure of handling the entire flow as their wedding celebrant, DJ and MC – from the first “I do” to the final track on the decks – ensuring the day felt like one continuous party.
The ceremony
We kicked things off with a ceremony that was equal parts heartfelt and hilarious. The crowd loved the story of how Daniel smoothly slid into Laurisa’s Facebook DMs back in 2018 – a move he admits he probably wouldn’t try today.
A few authentic highlights that set the tone:
-
The “fast photo” minute: To keep everyone present, I gave guests sixty seconds to go wild with their phones before tucking them away for the rest of the ceremony.
-
The proposal story: We revisited the chaotic Fiji proposal where Daniel’s best man, Shawne, had to get a bit “assertive” with a jet ski tour guide to ensure they reached the right island for the big moment.
-
The personal vows: Between the tears, Laurisa officially committed to a lifetime of picking up clothes from Daniel’s infamous “floordrobe”.
The venue & the shift to party mode
Flowerdale Estate in Strath Creek is a killer spot for a wedding that feels tucked away but stays high-energy. After the ceremony, guests moved to the oak tree and deck for cocktail hour while I transitioned from celebrant mode into MC and DJ duties.
Because I manage the sound from start to finish (with separate speakers for the ceremony, cocktail hour and the reception), there are no awkward silences or clunky gear changes. My setup in the reception space was positioned to maximise the dance floor energy, ensuring that when the sun went down, the room stayed electric.
The soundtrack: No heavy metal, just heavy hits
Daniel and Laurisa’s music brief was a dream for a Melbourne wedding DJ who loves to read the room. They requested a mix of 90s and 00s pop, RnB, and some classic singalongs.
The transition into the reception featured some major moments:
-
The parent dances: Laurisa and her dad shared a moment to Daddy’s Little Girl by The Shires, followed by Daniel and his mum to Van Morrison’s Days Like This (which I helped pick!).
-
The party starter: After the first dance, we shifted gears immediately with Dom Dolla’s Rhyme Dust to get the crowd moving. What a vibe! You can check it out in this Instagram reel.
-
The dance floor vibe: We leaned into “Dance through the Decades” and “Cool Kids” vibes, keeping the energy peaked without a single second of heavy metal or Lizzo – as per the couple’s strict “do not play” list.
We wrapped the night with Toploader’s Dancing in the Moonlight, leaving the newlyweds on a high note.
